I know I personally have been sharing all sorts of Halloween witch crafts (hello Hocus Pocus crafts like these Hocus Pocus bookmarks and DIY black flame candles) and witch themed recipes like these cauldron cupcakes and these witch hat cookies! I mean even my Halloween Family Feud game was skewing toward witchy answers – probably because the easiest Halloween costume ever is a witch. When I was looking up Halloween trivia questions, apparently it’s actually the #1 most popular costume for adults! So as I’ve been playing out ideas for my son’s classroom Halloween party, I knew I wanted to do something with a witch. And these witch popsicle stick crafts will be the perfect addition to the other Halloween popsicle stick crafts and other Halloween activities I already have planned! These fun crafts are a great way to have young kids practice fine motor skills and a simple craft that they really can’t mess up! Even if the witch’s face looks crazy, it’s okay because it’s a witch!

Supply Notes
Glue – I recommend using hot glue to glue the craft sticks together. You can do this before you even turn the craft over to the kids to make their own witch or you can let them help with the gluing process. Alternately, you could also use craft glue or white glue with young children – it’ll just take longer to dry. I also recommend a glue stick for gluing the hair to your witch so it stays better.Craft sticks – I used these fun green craft sticks here. They come in tons of colors and the green ones are perfect for these little witches! You could also get regular ones and paint them with green paint, but these are much easier!Googly eyes – I recommend using the large self-adhesive versions like these ones but you could just glue them on yourself if they don’t have a self-adhesive back. Hot glue, white glue, or craft glue is the perfect way to glue the non-adhesive ones on. Marker – you also need a black marker. Permanent is best but for young kids, regular marker is fine.Paper – something thicker like construction paper or card stock works best.Yarn – I did orange yarn but you could really make the witch’s hair any bright color you want or get multiple colors and let people make different characters! Just make sure to get the thicker yarn, not thin stuff that’s used for embroidery.
How to make This Witch Craft
This is one of my favorite witch crafts because it’s just so easy! And I’m all about simple crafts over here! The first step is probably the most challenging for younger kids so help them out if they need it! Start by gluing together seven of the green craft sticks using hot glue or craft glue. Then break (or cut) one of them in half and glue one half near the top of the other seven and one near the bottom. You should end up with a long strip on either end, this will keep the popsicle sticks together better! Next you’re going to cut out the witch’s hat with the paper. I used black and yellow paper but you could really use whatever colored paper you want for the yellow strip. I liked the bright yellow but purple paper would be great for the witches hat too! If you’re worried that kids won’t be able to cut out the hat shapes, you could always create hat patterns and let them cut those out instead. They’re pretty simple, but I know sometimes kids like guidance in their crafts! Glue the googly eyes and the witch’s hat to the popsicle stick base that you created earlier. Use the black marker to draw on the witch’s face and facial features. These finishing touches are what takes your witch from boring to boo-tiful and full of Halloween spirit! I just drew a basic smile, mole, and a triangle nose. It’s a great idea to let kids get creative with the witch’s face and make it look however they want! And then finally, use the hot glue gun (or white glue for younger kids) to carefully do a strip of hot glue on the back of the popsicle sticks then carefully add on the yarn hair. I love to glue the yarn on in a way tat it makes it look like wind is blowing through the witch’s hair as she’s flying on her little witch broom! Expert Tips
Make a sample beforehand so that kids know what they’re trying to create even if they don’t create something exactly like it. I know kids can get frustrated if they have no idea what they’re trying to do, or maybe that’s just me! Do this craft together. This is a great craft for adults to do with kids – adults glue and kids cut, draw, and put pieces together! Or glue the popsicle sticks together ahead of time to make this a little easier and quicker! Make it a witch Wednesday!
